PRIDE Workshop - Queering the 5 Rhythyms

  • Grindstone Studio 9562 82 Avenue Northwest Edmonton, AB Canada (map)

An exploration of Gabrielle Roth's physical improvization practices, which will guide the building of giant puppets out of cardboard, and then crafting queer performance with the giant masks. The 5 Rhythms improvisational practice uses dance as a somatic approach to healing and self-discovery. It is a practice that guides individuals to release emotions, connect with the body and the body’s impulses.

Puppetry with the making of giant masks is to bring to life the immaterial as a way to understand the nature of the material world. By blurring the boundaries of the living and the dead, puppetry and object performance blur all other binaries.

Pre-requisites, if any: Comfortable clothing, comfort with taking shoes off and using boxcutters Movement level & Considerations: all levels
